Fiction Season Two
Fiction: Season Two will be rolling out next week here on the Sudden Walk.
This is a collection of twelve original short stories that I’ve been sitting on for quite some time now. I’ve decided it’s time to make something of them.
I’ll be rolling out one new story every second week here on this page and putting them under the Fiction: Season Two banner on the Sudden Walk page.
Keep an eye out.
Without undermining my own work, it does feel a bit strange publishing these as “new” stories. Some of these are over eighteen months old and I feel like I’m a much better writer than I was when I originally typed “the end” on each of them.
But as I’ve touched on before, the temptation to horde creative work and “perfect” it doesn’t seem to be healthy for the work itself or pushing forward in my own development as a writer.
With this in mind, I’m publishing these stories as a snapshot in time, lagging by roughly a year on where I currently sit with my abilities. Part of me writhes a little bit doing this, “I’m not showcasing my best work” but equally, this means I’m always ahead by a step.
And that’s assuming progress is linear. There are regressions and doubling back in this craft, so what I think is progress right now might be something entirely different.
In any case this is just a quick announcement to let you know what’s coming up. I quite like the season format, now that I’ve got more than one of them it’s interesting to take note of the different textures between the two. They’ve both taken on their own shape, a bit like albums tend to do. If nothing else, they’ll serve as a bit of a time capsule re: where my headspace was sitting during different eras.
